Persons Are Gifts Camp
I have just spent four days of my precious life in a camp organised by St. Simon Youth Ministry - the Youth Ministry of my church. Guess what? It was AWESOME!
Before this, I have always thought it to be just another youth camp, full of life and energy, and the most that I'll enjoy out of it were the brief Praise and Worship sessions. To add to that, I was actually over-age as the camp were for youths aged 12-17. Yet, thanks to the encouragement from some of the core team members, I just came along.
Before I joined this camp, all I wanted from it was just to have fun. Plain, simple fun. I wasn't exactly enthusiastic about it, but I wasn't against it either. I was happy with my life the way it is. Sometimes hurt, happy times, growing up and all. But then I after I went through all the sessions, I felt "Wow! There's so much I'm missing out on, and I don't wanna miss out!"
Fruitful? Indeed it was a fruitful camp. There's an amazing organising committee, wonderful speakers and let's not forget extraordinary participants!!! A thousand thanks to all of them that made the camp happen! I can say that I enjoyed every part of the camp. The videos, songs and skits performed by the core team were simply breathtaking! I especially like the last skit performed by the core team, I really could relate to that. We were once taken care of by God, but then came the world, and it pulled us away from God. After all the empty promises of the world and also the hurt that it brought, we finally realised that we only needed one thing - God. Then we decided to turn back to God, we run to Him, but the world keeps pulling us down. Here's the part that really struck me - God was also reaching out to me! Eventually God uses His strength to hold off the world while we were tending our wounds. The result obvious, God won the battle, and He was simply happy that we turned back. His eyes were full of love. My eyes, on the other hand, were full of tears. It really helped me realise the truth about my life. How I have frequently, if not always, put my priorities before God. Life came first, then God. Yet He was still willing to reach out to me, how great was that! Great was His love for me! Total, free, unconditional, and complete.
As for the facilities, God provided us with a wonderful place to have the camp. For one, there was no hand phone signals there, so we could give our all to God, without any interruptions. It was surrounded by nature, full of fresh air, quiet and peaceful. The food was without complaint. Delicious! The most amiable quality of the whole place was that it was CLEAN! The beds weren't dusty and you could almost eat off the floor! Thanks to the brothers and sisters keeping the place clean, so I actually had a comfortable stay.
The camp, was a true eye-opener. I'm using this phrase quite a lot lately.. It made me realise many wonderful things about myself, about others, about God. It clarified many of the questions that I never knew I had regarding the Faith. Thanks to my brothers and sisters in Christ for giving such exceptional insight to me. I am so glad that I joined this camp.
I met a lot of great people in the camp. Some are even from other parishes. I met a lot of brothers with the same troubles I had, we could really understand each other, because we went through the same thing. I can gladly say that I have won over my struggles, now even more completely with the wisdom given me and the help from God. Though some of my brothers are still struggling, I am willing to journey alongside them, giving as much help I can.
By joining this camp, I felt closer to God. I have certainly grown in knowledge, in spirit and in faith. Kudos to the crew members for organising this camp, for all the wonderful people I met that made this camp a success and most of all thank God for giving me the gift of this camp.
I am looking forward to the next camp organised by St. Simon Youth Ministry. If possible, I would like to take part as a core team member~ xD
